UNICEF and Electrolux help foster families
Zagreb, 23 March 2016.
More than 1,500 girls and boys in Croatia live in institutions and have to wait for an opportunity to grow up in a family. In order to help provide quality foster care and an opportunity for a full and happy childhood for the greatest possible number of children who are without appropriate parental care, the renowned company Electrolux and UNICEF have joined forces in a humanitarian campaign presented today at the Poppy Showroom in Zagreb.
By selling its famous vacuum cleaners and small appliances, Electrolux will collect funds in order to provide children living in institutions with foster parents and through this what they need most: life in a family environment. Through the UNICEF programme ‘Every Child Needs a Family’, the Electrolux donation will be invested in supporting foster families, training and equipment for foster parents, increasing the number of quality foster parents and developing foster care.
Barnardica Juretić, the Croatian Minister of Social Policy and Youth, expressed her support for the campaign. “I am happy to be given the opportunity to support this wonderful collaboration for the well-being of children. Despite all our best efforts, children living in institutions do not always have the opportunity to experience the full sense of belonging and closeness given by a family. The society as a whole needs to provide each child with appropriate care and a happy childhood. The cooperation between Electrolux and UNICEF is a great example of actual assistance and I hope many other companies and individuals will see this as an example and provide help as much as they can.”
In recognition of the commitment by Electrolux, Valentina Otmačić, Head of the UNICEF Office for Croatia, said, “We sincerely thank Electrolux for recognising the value of family care for each child. In close cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy and Youth, UNICEF has continuously invested into promoting, developing and improving the quality of foster care and we are particularly pleased to have a new partner in this important effort.”
Ivan Radnić, the Sales Manager for Electrolux Small Appliances, said, “I must emphasise how very pleased we are to be able to help children who are in the greatest need of help. I hope a great number of people support the campaign through purchasing Electrolux home appliances and thus help children find their new families.”
Croatian Member of Parliament Ines Strenja Linić attended the presentation and gave her support. She knows all about the problems faced by foster families, because on a personal level she is herself a foster parent. Representatives of the Forum for Quality Foster Care, which is one of UNICEF’s partners in organising various associations of foster parents aimed at establishing quality foster care in Croatia, also attended the event.
